Slim leaves for Denver on business leaving Jess with the hired hand Ben. When Vern Clark arrives at Sherman Ranch and Relay station with his new wife, he finds that he's now the new marshal in Laramie since the Torrey brothers have just killed Marshal Blanton. Clark and Jess Harper mix about as well as oil and water and Jess refuses to be deputized by Clark until a neighbor is killed by the Torrey brothers. Jess rides into town to join the posse being formed by Clark. The posse finds themselves out-gunned by the Torrey gang and Clark breaks and runs after being grazed by a bullet. Believing himself a coward, Clark refuses to perform his duties, leaving Jess to try and organize the citizens of Laramie to defend themselves against the gang. Jess is banking on Clark realizing that he is not a coward and that he has a job to do no matter how scared he is. Written by DarSpi

Tenderfoot marshal
24 March 2017 | by (Buffalo, New York) – See all my reviews

The presence of Lee Van Cleef in this Laramie episode makes this one something special. He plays one truly despicable villain in this small screen episode.

Watching this one put me in mind of the Gary Cooper western Dallas where Reed Hadley played Wild Bill Hickok. Hadley and Cooper fake a shootout where Hadley pretends to kill Cooper allowing him to work incognito in rounding up some outlaws in Texas. Cooper takes with him U.S. marshal Leif Erickson who is from the East.

After Van Cleef comes into town and he and his gang murder the U.S. Marshal stationed in Laramie they reason they can come in and rob the bank at their convenience. Because as it turns out the federal government sends in a tenderfoot marshal in George Nader who shall we say has not gotten his baptism of fire. Don't worry there's Robert Fuller to assist with that.

Van Cleef makes this Laramie worth watching.
