So Juvenile! So Great!
kevinathome20 April 2014
I was 9 when series came out. It had it all. It had warm conventional old-fashioned Norman Rockwell Disney sentiment, kids, babes, scientists, space ships, manly men, a greedy man, a cowardly man, even a Negro! It captured and reversed the childish feelings of tiny powerlessness. If you liked playing with dolls (action figures) you must be in bliss.

So now, at 54, I checked out this episode. The nostalgia was so potent I think I liked it nearly as much. I liked the voices of the actors in the crew, rich and trained, but casual and sincere. And I just loved the retro-future spaceship.

So, for originality in its time, it deserves a 9 at least, and the pleasure of watching it is an easy 8, but the corn is just so thick for an adult, I'm not sure I could watch many episodes. Ah, give it an 8, for the kids.

By the way, the names of the giant family in this episode are Talf Ekrob, Osla Ekrob, and Dal Ekrob, which are backwards for Flat Broke, Also Broke, and, also reversed in order, Broke Lad.

On the Harbor!!

Who already watched the entire Land of the Giants series have noticed some geographic places nearby of campfire of the earthlings, for the first time is on harbor, it means that the untitled giant city was near to the sea, also another curious thing, the giant shell props came from the movie 1967's Dr. Dolittle, looking carefully the same spot was used to shooting the previous episode named Flight Plan, the corner with two floor building, the opposite side is where Joe/Logar hideout with other giants, in this episode you clearly can see moreover the little degree where Marc stays between Giant's legs while he clean up the pipe, pay attention for this little and curious things!!

Resume:

First watch: 1971 / How many: 5 / Source: TV-Cable TV-VHS-DVD / Rating: 7

Not A Classic But Some Nice Things To Look At
StuOz17 July 2020
A deaf kid finds spaceship Spindrift in the jungle.

This episode is a taste of things to come in season two when the once creepy giants are much less creepy to the little people. Granted, this season was repeating it's plots too much (nasty giant wants to capture little folk, etc) so the writers probably needed to do this to keep the series going but this new direction was not always to my liking.

On top of this, we have a great music composer - Mullendore - who did wonders on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (Blackbeard) and Lost In Space (The Haunted Lighthouse, Space Beauty) but bombs out here.

However, there are some nice things to look at: the shell set from Fox's Doctor Doolittle (1967) and for the third (and final) time we get a really good look at spaceship Spindrift.

For all of season two, the ship just sits like a rock in the jungle and does nothing. Too bad they could not have done more with it as it is such a great looking craft.

Shell Game is okay.
