While locked in the storage room, Michael and Amy originally found themselves in jeopardy as the goons started a fire to activate the Halon gas system; Halon gas extinguishes fires by extracting oxygen from the air.
After Quincy was murdered, Michael Halperin's first draft had Michael and K.I.T.T. pursue the killer's motorcycle. The chase took them to the L.A. riverbed, and they lost him when he ducked into one of the pipes where K.I.T.T. couldn't go. This scenario was already played out in the earlier episode THE ICE BANDITS.
Kleist's line "Mr. Knight's car had more capabilities than we expected" doesn't make too much sense in the episode; his goon didn't see K.I.T.T. do anything, and it was Michael that jumped off the pier. In the early drafts K.I.T.T. was to come to Michael's rescue and they Turbo Boosted over the killer's car to safety.
In sequel series' TEAM KNIGHT RIDER episode The Blonde Woman, Trek gets off work by telling the F.L.A.G. mechanics that it's Michael's birthday.
Michael seems to be celebrating two birthdays. His "real" birthday is January 9, 1949 (indicated on his tombstone in the episode A GOOD KNIGHT'S WORK). He was shot on August 8, 1982, but it is unknown exactly when the bandages came off and Michael Knight was "born."
