The Vicar: A bit more this way. A little higher. And straighter. Yes, that'll do. Let's have the drawing pins.
The Vicar's wife: You said bring the poster. You didn't say anything about drawing pins.
The Vicar: Well, I'll hold it and you can fetch them.
The Vicar's wife: Oh, that's very charitable!

An episode to avoid
13 November 2011 | by (Australia) – See all my reviews

I love this show, but this episode, the first of season 5, is clunky, unfunny and too reliant on gimmicks and direction-less antics that don't work.

For me, this show works best when it is not trying to be too farcical. Patricia Routledge is always so brilliant, but sometimes, such in this case, she is let down by clichéd direction and over the top caricature performances from practically all the supporting cast. Believe it or not, I find Hyacinth the most convincing, while most others are acting like they are on stage in a pantomime.

The first season is unbeatable. After that, it's a little hit and miss!
