- Rose: That's it. Finished. No more men. Enough's enough. In the end they all deceive you. After all I've done for that swine, to leave me for another woman. I don't care if she *is* his wife.

- Hyacinth: [answering the telephone] The Bouquet residence; the lady of the house speaking.
- Hyacinth: Do I sound like a Chinese takeaway?
- Hyacinth: I am a highly desirable private residence in an area of outstanding natural property values. And I'm waiting for your apology. Unless of course the thought of bean shoots and crispy wonton have totally stir-fried your basic humanity. And kindly clear this line. There are people of substance in this community who are probably queuing to ring me at this very moment.
- Hyacinth: Your suggestion is noted, but I see little practical merit in having the telephone up my jumper.

- The Vicar's Wife: [discovers Rose lying on top of the vicar] Well!
- Rose: It's all right; I'm going to be a nun.
- [the vicar steps outside, sees Hyacinth and comes back into the vicarage]
- The Vicar's Wife: Oh, that was quick.
- The Vicar: You said keep away from the ladies.
- The Vicar's Wife: [she looks outside] Oh, I see. I meant keep away from all of them, not just that one.
- The Vicar: Tell her I've been called away.
- The Vicar's Wife: Where to?
- The Vicar: Vladivostok.
- Emmet: [to Elizabeth] If she comes out, she'll want to know where we're going. You'll tell her, because you can't lie. Why is it, you're a grown woman and can't lie?
- Elizabeth: I had to tell her! I mean, you were there - one more hesitation, she'd have torn out my fingernails!
