- A young man , Rick, and his girlfriend, Lisa, pull up outside a laundrymat. The Rick gets out ot the truck, walks inside, and puts a gun in a woman's face, demanding all the money. She trips a silent alarm than proceeds to give Rick all the money she has. Hank and Rudy are close by and get the call. The two teenagers hear Hank approach. Lisa takes off in the truck. Rick runs out the back, down the street, and illegally jumps on the subway. So does Rudy!
Hank gets a discription on not only the boy, but also on a girl parked in a truck right outside. Then he meets up with Lou so Lou's K-9 dog can track Rudy. Lou can't help but tease Hank about Rudy's running out on him.
Meanwhile, Stevie is trying to help Maggie study for her real estate exam, but she doesn't hav emuch interest. Hank calls home to see if Rudy showed up.
Rick discovers Rudy and hops onto another train to losse him. Rick realizes Rudy is on there and tries to get off without Rudy knowing it. He then runs up the stairs of the subway, hoping to get rid of Rudy, but Rudy is in hot pursuit. Rick jumps on a bus, thinking he has lost the dog. When he looks out the back window, though, Rudy's running behind. So then Rick jumps off the bus and runs as fast as he can. He gets into a phone booth and shuts the door just before Rudy gets to him. He's now trapped. He calls his girlfriend, Lisa, and begs her to come and get him. In order for him to get in the truck, she has to pull up as close to the phonebooth as she can so he can jump through the window as soon as he opens the door. The plan works and Lisa speeds off, Rudy right behind them. Rudy then jumps on the back of a flatbed truck that's right behind their truck and follows them.
Lou is able to track Rudy all the way to the phone booth, the looses the scent. Hank leaves to investigate further.
Rudy continues to follow the pickup until it turns off, then he jumps from the flatbed and continues following it until they get to a house and go inside. He stays outside, watching the house.
As it turns out, the young couple are planning on marrying, then running to Mexico to live on the money they made in the robbery.
That night, Hank sits up worrying about Rudy, wondering where he is.
When Rick starts counting the money the next morning, he realizes they don't have much - not enough to get to Mexico, or even out of Canada. He doesn't want to live in Canada anymore and is very upset. Lisa does her best to calm him down, but to no avail. He is determined to come up with a plan to get to Mexico.
When Lisa walks over to the window, she sees Rudy guarding the house. "Oh no!" she exclaims. Lisa decides to throw some food outside for Rudy to eat. Then they can sneak out the front door and take off. But Rudy isn't interested in food - he's on the job! When they try to leave, Rudy suddenly appears and forces them back inside.
Meanwhile, Maggie is on the job at the collection agency. Her boss reminds her to call Mr. Washburn and remind him he needs to pay what he owes. While on the phone with him, she asks him to keep a look out for a german shepherd.
Rick decides to kill the dog, but he fires every shot and misses. Then he gets an idea. He puts his coat on Lisa and makes it look like him getting in the truck. Then he distracts Rudy away from the truck so Lisa can hop in and take off. The plan works and Rudy takes off after the truck, leaving Rick freedom to escape. Lisa drives down the highways at a high rate of speed trying to get away from the dog. Rudy jumps into the back of the pickup and begins barking at her. She screams and veers off the road, running into a tree. Rudy has her trapped. The neighbors call the police.
That afternoon, Stevie is trying to teach Maggie about figuring on a computer. She is frustrated and wants to give up, but Stevie won't let her. He gently reminds her about what she told him when he wanted to quit baseball. "A Katts never gives up." He stuck with it and now he's starting shortstop, so she has to stick to it too. But she still wasn't convinced. Then Stevie mentioned Rudy's not giving up. She decided to give it another shot after that.
The police come to pick up the girl, and Rudy takes off to find Rick. Rick was hitchiking and got into a truck. Rudy sees him and hops onto the back of the flatbed truck.
Hank is called about the girl who was in the truck matching the description he was looking for. She refuses to tell Hank anything. Suddenly, a German Shepered walks by and she becomes hysterical. She beggs Hank to keep that dog away from her, than reports that Rudy had been following her for 2 days. She then tells Hank the whole story - even that her parents hate Rick. Hank tells her she has to tell - he's already in a lot of trouble! She finally tells him that they were going to meet at the arches in City Hall.
But he didn't show up. When he finally does get out of the truck, Rudy jumps from behind and takes off after him. Rudy chases him for a while, finally ending the chase at the top of a fire escape in an ally. A woman comes to her window wanting to know what's going on. He begs her to call the cops, which she gladly does. Rudy's job is finally over!
The next day, Maggie takes her real estate exam. Hank is stuck with making Stevie's lunch while they wait for Maggie's return. Stevie askes Hank to leave out the anchovies next time he makes him a tuna salad sandwich. Maggie then comes home, announcing that she passed the exam. Rudy slept for a solid twelve hours. One of the fellow police officers bring him a pint of icecream, which wakes Rudy up. He eats it right out of the carton as all his human friends watch...and laugh!
