The super-villains Superman and Batman fight midway through the episode are the original members of the Cadre, the first super-villain team faced by the Justice League Detroit. Present are Black Mass (a physicist with gravity-based powers), Shatterfist (a martial artist and former priest of the goddess Kali), Crowbar (a street thug with a magic crowbar), and Fastball (a former baseball pitcher with explosive missiles).
