Juliet Bravo seemed to give a spot for character actors to shine.
Patricia Hayes plays an elderly Irish tea lady, Doris Latham. She is arrested for having faked cheques signed at her place of work. It has been going on for over four years and she has netted over £30,000.
Doris refuses to tell Jean Darblay who she did it for. Only it was for a man who was kind to her after she was widowed and someone in true need for the money.
Darblay knows better, it is a local villain who has taken advantage of her kindness by making out he is desperate.
Darblay is initially upset when Doris is bought into the station. It means she is responsible for her welfare as the only female police officer in the station.
There are more gritty parts in the episode. One man is nearly beaten to death in a hammer attack (offscreen.) Nearly drowned in his own pool of blood according to the doctor.
The chase scene at the end was laughable. Darblay was surprised that two policemen let the suspect get away. Well one went to the back of the house and the other knocked on the front door. All the villain had to do is move just one of them out of the way which he did.
