JOHNNY RINGO "The Poster Incident" 1960

JOHNNY RINGO was a western series that ran for 38 episodes during 1959-60. The series starred Don Durant as the title character with Karen Sharpe, Mark Goddard and Terence De Marney as series regulars. The series follows Durant, (Ringo) a former gunfighter who decides to go straight. He becomes the Sheriff in the small town of Velardi in the Arizona Territory. The series was one of several (Rifleman, Wanted Dead or Alive, Shotgun Slade) with a "gimmick gun". Durant carries a special LeMat revolver equipped with a shotgun barrel under the six gun barrel. This episode is the 15th episode of the series.

This one starts with a murder of a store owner down the trail not far from Velardi. The killer is identified and wanted posters are printed up. These are sent on the next train to Velardi and other burgs on the way. There has however been a mix up at the printers. The posters for the killer have the picture of a Government type coming to Velardi to collect tax money. The id for the Government type has been switched for the killer.

The killer, Gene Raymond, is soon greeted in town as the Government type. Raymond, a smooth operator, plays right along with the error. He has learned that the Government man is here to collect 2 grand in tax money. This would of course help Mister Raymond's escape fund.

Raymond's plan hits a slight bump in the road. He must stop the actual Government type from making it to town. This he does with several pieces of high velocity lead. The town Sheriff, Don Durant figures the dead man is the wanted killer since he matches the wanted poster.

It is only through a bit of good luck that the Sheriff tumbles to Raymond's ploy. Guns are yarded and there is a fairly heavy exchange of lead needed to settle the matter.

This is an entertaining episode with Gene Raymond in particular shining.
