Jim Fixed IT
11 May 2006 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Jim'll Fix complete with various renditions of the theme tune (remember the "hip" Musical Youth version) was a series where "dreams come true" for kids. The basic format was that of a letter being read out by a Kid who had asked Jim to Fix it for him to do something special (meet a pop group, go sailing, be the prime minister for a day etc) and then the film would be shown of the experience. To mark the occasion the kid would get a Jim'll Fix it medallion.

Although Jimmy Saville did make a lot of dreams come true, there was always a seedy element where he insisted the women and girls appearing on the show had to kiss his cheek (Yuk!). By the time it drew to a close it really had passed its sell by date.

As a child I thought Jimmys chair, which dispensed badges, mementos and cigars was really cool but other than that, this was Saturday teatime filler before Doctor Who.

The one episode that really did stick in my mind was the episode where Peter Cushing star of many Hammer Horror films (and Star Wars), wrote to Jim and asked for a rose to be named after his late wife. It was sensitive and profound without the usual overdose of sentiment.
