The scene in which the convoy of Suburbans is attacked is interspersed with footage from Clear and Present Danger (1994). The scene is now actually used as a training video in US government agencies.
Lt. Austin chastises Cpl. Parr for firing 15 rounds, saying he overreacted and used too much force. However Marines, and all branches of the military, are trained to continue firing until the threat has been neutralized, in other words dead on the ground. Also the Corporal was using an M-16 rifle, which in full auto mode fires about 700 rounds per minute. So while firing 15 rounds from a semi-automatic weapon may have taken longer time and thought, it does not with a full auto, in fact in full auto mode an M-16 would fire 15 rounds in only 1.34 seconds, barely more than a single trigger squeeze.
Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) is a communist guerrilla group in Peru following Marxism-Leninism-Maoism and Gonzalo Thought. It has been widely condemned for its brutality, including violence deployed against peasants, trade union organizers, competing Marxist groups, elected officials and the general public. Sendero Luminoso is regarded as a terrorist organization by Peru, Japan, the United States, the European Union, and Canada, all of whom consequently prohibit funding and other financial support to the group.
There are a few different 7.65mm cartridges, but the one Lt. Austin is referring to is the 7.65x17mm, more commonly known as a .32 ACP. The .32 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) was developed in 1899 by John Browning, it was initially developed for the FN M1900 semi-automatic pistol and has since been used in many different types of firearms.
