Nepotism (slightly), bullying and not a good advert for the USN
hindsonevansmike10 March 2021
In real life, whenever you are working with the offspring of an important/connected person, there is a risk of conflict (or as the USN calls it, "Undue command influence").

There are no real winners in this tale of argument and redemption.

Eagle-eyed viewers will spot that Harm left the JAG office with line-officer stars on his lower sleeves, yet he had mill-rindes in place for the nest shot as he arrives on board the ship in dock. Hollywood magic?

Great Show, Horrible Episode
tjc4723 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
(**CONTAINS SPOILER**) The outcome of the trial here and the overriding message is ridiculous. The CO was CLEARLY abusing his power and in the real world could have been relieved of command. Commanding Officers have mandates to lead, not become tyrants. Harm's smart-ass remark at the end is absurd given that the CO's order was Proved to be unlawful. I simply don't understand what the hell was going on with the writers on this one. This episode is too heavy on the Hollywood, and too light legality. Yes, this is a TV show and not life or death, but the message it sends is surprising. There is nothing honorable in the CO's action, yet the writers almost seem to glorify the "dictatorial"-style of command in the end. This cheapens the importance and value of leaders in the military that know how to truly lead men and women, unlike the Burke character.

Egos on parade

This episode shows a "nose up his butt" egotistical officer who, again, gets away with it. This is the reason I left the service after 12 years, I just could no longer put up stinking egotistical airheads like the commander in this episode. I despise creeps like him and the military bends over backwards to accommodate creeps like this guy.
