She asks to investigate a disappearance of a Marine major from a ship at sea; the admiral sends both her and Gunny to the ship in the Indian Ocean. Under interesting circumstances Mac and Gunny find their man, who unwittingly nudges Mac toward some introspection. Meanwhile an airman taxies an aircraft and makes a short flight with an unhappy ending; a new character, Cdr. Turner, prosecutes, and Harm defends. Did You Know?

The fictional ship is USS Guadalcanal (LHA-9). Two ships of the US Navy have borne the name Guadalcanal. The first was CVE-60, an escort aircraft carrier of the Casablanca class, which served 1943-46. The second was LPH-7, an amphibious assault (helicopter) ship of the Iwo Jima class, which served 1963-94. LHA-9 does not exist in truth, for the highest numbered LHA is USS Tripoli (LHA-7), also an amphibious assault (helicopter) ship of the America class, which is still in the planning stages and not yet under construction. The Master Chief states the T-34C was found on its back, then further states the only damage was a bent strut and prop. If it had indeed flipped on its back, it would have canopy and vertical stabilizer damage as well, and would not be ready to fly the next morning. Besides, a metal prop strike requires an engine teardown for a bent crankshaft and other damage. See more »

Sarah MacKenzie: I can take care of myself, Admiral.
Albert Jethro Chegwidden: Oh, I know it's the marines aboard the Guadalcanal I want to protect.
