RAdm. Chegwidden serves as the senior member of the annual selection board for promotion to the rank of captain, and the SecNav brings much pressure to bear on him in favor of Cdr. Ted Lindsey, who now serves on the staff of the SecNav, and who appeared in seasons 1 and 4. The SecNav expresses displeasure with the admiral and threatens bad consequences for him. Tiner achieves much success on behalf of Gunny but gets an unpleasant surprise of his own.
