Trivia

This is the show where Ironside's paddy wagon (used for transporting criminals and used by him as an RV because his wheelchair can fit inside) is burned up in an explosion - a quick cutaway shot shows that the wagon was empty and rigged to crash and burn up (the better to throw the killer sheriff off his stride). Ironside would get a much snazzier, modern-looking van for the rest of the series, and in the last few seasons would sometimes drive his own hand-controlled automobile so he didn't need a chauffeur. R&R goes bad
21 August 2013 | by (Buffalo, New York) – See all my reviews

A little R&R for the Ironside team goes real bad when escaped convict Clu Gulager steals the Ironside van with Don Galloway inside. Gulager of course did not realize he was taking a San Francisco PD officer as a hostage, but it turns out to be a good thing he did.

This all occurs in a small northern California town where a sheriff very similar to the role G.D. Spradlin had in Tank has quite a little racket going involving his prison farm. The sheriff is played here by Steve Forrest who wants to keep it a secret and Gulager is a danger to him and now so is Galloway.

It's an interesting episode, one of the best I've seen from the series. The team suffers a casualty however. For what happened you have to watch Ironside to find out.
