Storyline

During a horse race someone steals 175.000 dollars from the money room. Al Hayes, the security chief of the race track, contacts chief detective Ironside for help. One employee, Lewis Blackwell, who had access to the money room, has disappeared. In a police chase Blackwell loses the control of his car, crashes and dies. Ironside realizes that Blackwell has only been a stooge for the real thief. His team of detectives investigates every inch of the crashed car, but cannot find any hidden money, or anything else of interest. Someone steals the car, and leaves it some hours later in an alley. That means that the real thief now must have found what he was looking for in the car. Suddenly Ironside gets an idea of what it might be. He commissions Mark to irradiate the car with a special lamp. In the blue light an invisible text is seen on the car paint. It gives the name of an old boat dump. Ironside goes there with his team, hoping to find either the money or the thief. Written by Maths Jesperson {maths.jesperson1@comhem.se}

There's a horse tomorrow in the third race that just can't miss!

***SPOILERS*** Debut episode of the "Ironside" TV series with Raymond Burr as the wheel-chair bound detective Robert T. Ironside taking a well needed break. Ironside decides to go to Hollywood Park to spend a day at the races an catch a couple of winners while ending the action. As things turned out Ironside got shut out in placing a bet on a 9 to 1 shot, who won the race, when the para-mutual system suddenly shut down. It later turned out that the race track was robbed of $175,000.00 during all the confusion that was in fact planned in advance. Given the task in finding the robber by race track manager Herb Jarman, James Gregory, Ironside discovers that one of the track's internal security officials a Louis Blackwell, who's also a secret compulsive gambler, checked out just before the race or robbery started and may well be the person who robbed the place! It's not that long that Blackwell tried to run a police roadblock and ends up getting killed when he car ran off the road into a ditch!

Checking out all the evidence available to him Ironside soon realizes that the dead Louis Blackwell was just a messenger in him delivering to the person behind the race track heist a Mr.X the information where the stolen money is hidden not in him having the cash on him. This has Ironside and his two sidekicks pretty officer Eve Whitefield,Barbara Anderson, and somewhat klutzy Mark Sanger, Don Mitchell, do his legwork in tracking down the car that's now to be put up for auction at the local police pound. Ironside rightly figured out that there's a massage somewhere hidden in or on the car that tells where the money is stashed at. But in finding the massage well that's like finding a needle in a haystack or a sign of life in a cemetery!

****SPOILERS**** It was while he spent his losing day at the racetrack that got Ironside later thinking where the clue, on Louis Blackwell's car, to where the stolen money is. That's by Ironside getting his hand stamped when he paid for clubhouse admission at the race track. This not only got Ironside to figure where the secret massage is on the late Louis Blackwell's car but also who this Mr. X really is. That's by Mr.X, who like everyone else has no idea where the money is hidden, coming out into the open to get the stolen cash. This as Ironside and his two aids officers Whitefield & Sanger together with him come to retrieve it!
