The first episode of the Ironside television series has the chief and his special squad investigating a racetrack robbery where some poor schnook is made the fall guy. With the cops chasing him, he crashes through a highway fence.

For whatever reason the getaway car becomes a valuable piece of evidence. A motorcycle cop played by Kent McCord before he signed on to play a rookie cop in Adam 12 is badly injured by the perpetrator who stole a tow truck to get the car out of a ditch.

Although the crack team of Ed Brown and Barbara Anderson lose the car, it's Raymond Burr of course who comes up with why the car itself was so valuable to the brains behind the robbery even though no loot was found in it.

It's like in those old cartoons when the lightbulb goes off.
