Major Yeates' pompous and self-opinionated cousin comes to town. Though Basil is only there for a sampling of local customs, his visit causes trouble for the Resident Magistrate.
Flurry suggests Basil might learn some interesting Irish language during the forthcoming case of assault between two families, so they go to court. After four hours of graphic and contrdictory evidence about the events on the island where the families live, Major Yeates resolves the case. However, it is the Major that causes the downfall of the settlement, and only Flurry's ingenuity can put him back on the right side of the law.
