Clint Eastwood sits down with James Lipton for a nearly two-hour conversation that tacks his career from his early days at Universal through the Leone trilogy and other high profile titles like COOGAN'S BLUFF, DIRTY HARRY, HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES, EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE, SUDDEN IMPACT, PALE RIDER, UNFORGIVEN, BIRD, THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY and MYSTIC RIVER. Eastwood, with that terrific voice, is always a pleasure to listen to and he's also quite funny when it comes to story time. He shares some great memories of his career and even tells a hilarious story about director Don Siegel telling John Wayne during the making of THE SHOOTING that Eastwood would shoot someone in the back. Wayne's comeback and Eastwood's telling of the story is priceless. Eastwood also goes into good detail about his early days at Universal when he talks about some of the bit roles and why working here was so good for him. He explains that the studio had various free classes that taught things like dancing and horse riding and the actor explains why he took everything he could go. We get to hear about Paul Newman recommending him for the DIRTY HARRY role, where he bought the cigars for the Leone films, his admiration for James Cagney and the mysterious hints at religion in films like HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER and PALE RIDER. There's also a long discussion about UNFORGIVEN and what he was trying to do with it. Fans of the actor are certainly in for a real treat here because he's just so fun to watch and listen to. A large portion of his career is covered making this a must see.
