The Assistant
20 November 2014 | by (North America) – See all my reviews

David Banner(Bill Bixby) while working as a dishwasher in a diner meets an ailing magician named Jasper The Great(played by Ray Walston) whose inability to pay his bill gets him thrown out and David fired(!). Jasper offers David a lift and a job as his assistant in his act, but has health problems that lead to a near fatal accident in his show, while his daughter shows up to help, as Jasper is determined to stop the wedding of an old flame to a con man(played by Robert Alda). Amusing episode cleverly reunites former series costars Bixby & Walston(from "My Favorite Martian") while referencing another Bixby series "The Magician".(Short-lived and little known effort, but later referenced by a young Fox Mulder in "The X-Files").
