Pretty Good Story, but …
11 September 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

(Big Sigh) … "In the Heat of the Night" is a wonderful show, and "When the Music Stopped" is a pretty good story, BUT Robert Goulet as a country-western singer? No. It doesn't work. At all. He is simply not believable in the role! And the songs he sings are very amateurish.

Gary Crosby is his usual affable self as the manager/sound man (whatever he was) Mal Talbot, and Joe Dorsey was strong as the angry songwriter Ace McCabe. Alan Autry ("Bubba") gave a good performance as the number one fan who became disillusioned by the events.

All in all, it was a good story. It's just too bad it was severely damaged by the horrible miscasting of Bob Goulet. He was a fine talent, but not as a country singer. Now if Merle Haggard, or someone like that, had done the role, it would have made huge difference.
