Storyline

Althea Tibbs is raped by fellow teacher Stephen Ainslee after she comes home from grocery shopping. Althea says it was Stephen Ainslee that raped her even though she never saw his face but she recognized his voice. Detective Virgil Tibbs has problems coming to grips on how his wife could let something like this happen to her which infuriates Althea. Linda Ainslee, who is Stephen's wife, tells the Sparta P.D. at the time of the rape, her husband Stephen was at home with her which further complicates the charge against him. Stephen ends up threatening and harassing Althea about keeping quiet. When Virgil finds out about this, it sends him over the edge in which a confrontation ensues between him and the teacher. Chief Gillespie works on trying to convince Linda Ainslee to come clean about her husband's actions. Written by mts77

Amazing Acting by Anne-Marie
10 August 2014 | by (Oklahoma City) – See all my reviews

I am a huge In the Heat of the Night fan. This episode is one of my favorites. It is not because of the story line, but because of the acting. Anne-Marie Johnson did a FANTASTIC job of portraying a rape victim. Her performance was realistic, emotional, and captivating. Though it was difficult to watch as she portrayed such extreme emotions, it was the best performances I've ever seen on this subject. Highly recommend!!! My children (10 year old girl and 8 year old boy) watched it with me. This show is so well done that it does not show anything inappropriate. Even with the story line, this show is okay for kids to watch. I love this show!!!
