The Return Of The Gruesome Twosome!
29 March 2009 | by (Ambrosia) – See all my reviews

Alf gets a return visit from talkative Min ( Patricia Hayes ) and her senile sister Gwenneth ( Irene Handl ). They claim to be 'just passing', but Alf is sceptical - East London being a considerable distance from Harley Street. Gwenneth mistakes Alf for a doctor and begins to undress in front of him. Without being invited, she and Min make plans to stay the night.

Alf goes to the pub in search of a bit of a peace. Min and Gwenneth follow him there, the latter making a fool of herself first by tipping Alf's pint over Arthur's head - she had mistaken him for an old boyfriend - and then talking to herself.

A séance is held back at the flat, with Gwenneth as medium. Marigold and his boyfriend Goldie ( Richard Speight ) are also in attendance. Predictably, they see a golden opportunity to have some fun with Alf...

A welcome return from Patricia Hayes and Irene Handl as 'Min' and 'Gwenneth'. Once again, no sooner are they in Alf's flat than they virtually take the place over. Sadly, this was one of Handl's last performances - she died later that year.

Funniest moment - during the séance, Alf watches terrified as a glass of orange juice moves across the table towards him.
