This is the final episode of the first season, filmed on May 2, 1952. Five more episodes were filmed in May and June before production halted and resumed again in August. Those episodes were broadcast as the first five shows of season two. (source: "The I Love Lucy Book" by Bart Andrews)
This is the second time Lucille Ball and Gale Gordon acted together on television. The first was two weeks earlier in "The Schedule."
When originally broadcast there was an epilogue featuring Lucy and Desi appearing as themselves breaking the fourth wall to directly address the audience. They sit on a packed trunk and announce they're leaving on summer vacation. They encourage the audience to watch the summer replacement series My Little Margie (1952) and to smoke the cigarettes of their sponsor, Philip Morris. This tag scene was shown only in its original broadcast but is included as a special feature on the DVD set.
After making numerous phony reservation for Ricky's replacement at the Tropicana, Lucy informs Fred and Ethel that there is no need to keep calling, as she was told during her last call that she had gotten the last available reservation. Lucy states that Harry and Bess Truman have snatched up the last table. The Trumans of course were the President and First Lady of the United States at the time.
Ricky's replacement at the Tropicana is called Xavier. This is a reference to Xavier Cugat for whom Desi Arnaz worked at one time.
