Storyline

Lucy complains that she doesn't have nearly enough Hollywood souvenirs, a statement with which Ricky takes issue. When she and Ethel go to the Grauman's Chinese Theater, they notice that John Wayne's footprints are loose, so they pry the cement block out of the ground and take it back to the hotel.

Per the title, Grauman's Chinese Theater is a movie theater located at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood along the historic Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Chinese Theater was commissioned following the success of the nearby Grauman's Egyptian Theater which opened in 1922. Built over 18 months, beginning in January 1926 by a partnership headed by Sid Grauman, the theater opened May 18, 1927 with the premiere of Cecil B. DeMille's film The King of Kings and hosted three Academy Awards ceremonies. In the theater's forecourt are the signatures, footprints, and hand prints of popular motion picture personalities from the 1920s to the present day.

An Interesting Souvenir

Probably the season best remembered by fans of I Love Lucy was the 1955 one where the Ricardos and Mertzes take a trip to Hollywood because Ricky has been signed to a contract. He's to appear in a new film of the legendary Don Juan. Imagine Don Juan singing Baba-Loo.

This was the season that nearly every week a leading star of the day appeared as themselves as movie star crazy Lucy went on the prowl for them. Face it folks this was stalking, but when its done by Lucille Ball as Lucy Ricardo it can be forgiven.

This was the next to last episode of that season that involved Lucy and Ethel going to Grauman's Chinese Theater and discovering the block of cement with John Wayne's footprints is loose. What to do, but lift them for a souvenir.
