- After Ricky and Fred get upset about the girls' spending, Lucy and Ethel go to work in a candy factory while the boys do the housework.
- Ricky comes home from work, upset that Lucy wrote on a check to not have the teller put it through until next month. Lucy tries to get out of being overdrawn, saying Ricky doesn't give her enough money. As the Mertzes come in, the husbands argue that the girls don't know what it's like to get a job as they lay around all day. The girls argue the husbands don't know how hard it is cooking and cleaning. They decide that for a week, they will trade places. In the morning Ricky has cooked breakfast, and Lucy is shocked by how good the food is, until the phone rings. It turns out Ricky bought the meal at the drugstore, and they called to say while Ricky was paying for the food, he left his hat there. Ricky says he is a bad cook as he couldn't get the bacon and eggs right and burned every one of them. Lucy and Ethel then leave to look for work. At the job office, Lucy and Ethel have the man read the jobs available, as they don't know their specialty. They settle on being candy makers at a factory. Back at the apartment, the boys are being bad housewives. They decide Ricky will cook chicken and rice, and Fred will bake a seven layer cake. At the candy factory, Lucy is assigned to be the dipper for the candy, and Ethel will work in the boxing department. Lucy has fun doing the job, until a fly lands on her co-worker's face, and she slaps her face in an attempt to kill the fly. The two then continuously slap each other's faces with chocolate. Back at the apartment, Ricky is vacuuming. Fred comes in with a devil's food cake, with only one layer. It turns out it went wrong because Fred mixed the frosting into the batter. The men go into the kitchen, Ricky saying he will serve one pound of rice to everybody. When the chickens come out, the boys clean them, when the rice starts overflowing. The boys attempt to clean up the rice, but Ricky keeps slipping on the rice. Back at the factory, Lucy and Ethel are sent to the wrapping department. As the boss leaves to go to the switch, the girls talk. Ethel has been in four departments, after being kicked out of the boxing department, because she kept pinching the chocolates to see what kind they were, and Lucy relates. The boss tells them if a candy goes unwrapped, they'll be fired. At first, the girls find that they can handle it pretty well. All of a sudden, the conveyor belt starts going fast, and the girls hide the chocolates in their mouths, shirts, and even hats. They have to stuff more chocolates when their boss has the belt speed up. At home, the girls come in, and the boys have left a note, warning the girls to not go in the kitchen, but Lucy goes in anyway. Lucy says there is food all over the place, and the boys get home. They agree to let things be the way they were. The boys give the girls chocolate, and Lucy and Ethel pass out.
