Third and last appearance for Paul Lynde
24 November 2016 | by (Youngstown,Ohio) – See all my reviews

"Please, Don't Feed the Astronauts" marked the third and final appearance of Paul Lynde, already known for playing Uncle Arthur on BEWITCHED, and soon to become the most beloved celebrity on Hollywood Squares. Basically a replay of "My Master, the Weakling," with Lynde in place of Don Rickles, his Commander Porter the tough no nonsense trainer who plans to turn Majors Nelson and Healey into physical wrecks for the good of the country. After one day under his tutorship, the starving astronauts have 'lost enough fat to make a full grown jockey!' Add to this the blood draining Nurse Lugosi (Hazel Shermet), and the duo won't last much longer. One blink from Jeannie and they're up and running, leading Porter to believe that his special 'secret formula' vitamin pills work like a charm. Now able to give them the works, Porter and his pigeons set out on a survival course in the wilderness, Jeannie determined to keep her master from starving. Dr. Bellows offers the hallucinating Porter sage advice from his own experience: "you're as sane as I am, just take two aspirins and stay away from Major Nelson and Major Healey!" Porter: "sorry, I couldn't hear you on account of the giant chicken!" Ted Cassidy's short role adds to the fun, similar to his turn in chapter 3 of "Jeannie, Jeannie, Who's Got the Genie?" ("and now if you will excuse me I must cut your friend to ribbons!").
