This story line has an exact same story as the film MAGNOLIA released 1 year later: about a man who commits suicide by jumping off a building and accidentally getting shot as he falls to his death by a tenant in the building, who also turn out to be his parents who are trying to kill each other as he falls past their apt. window. The film and the show both ask: Is it suicide or is it murder.
Munch makes reference to John Waters and Steve Buschemi, both of whom appeared as characters on Homicide in previous seasons.
This episode takes place in January 1998.
This episode made a front page story of the Cumberland Times-News on January 23, 1998 as offending some residents as negative to the county. Researched showed that a bar called Hermann's Woodland Tavern in the woods was a well known biker bar till it closed in 1995. Likely producers of the show decided to pick this similar bar and snapped some pics and recreated this scene that was long closed down and abandoned when this episode aired in January 1998. Proper research was also conducted that showed the former bar is identical to the long defunct bar including a CD machine and Deer Head. Lawsuit was threaten but never carried out since their was no case.
