Let's begin with Tool Time: Tim is showing off a sexy red and black jacket, given to him by the Tri-City Hot Rodders Club in Saginaw. He's up for the Car Guy of the Year award. Tim has raised car consciousness and they're honoring him at a big banquet, and then he tells Al how he stole from him to buy a $500 gold circle seat. What a guy. Head of the Tri-City Hot Rodders, George "Sparky" Anders...er, Henderson, comes on to talk about upholstery, something he's an expert at. No, he's more of an obsessive. He and Tim rattle on about car colors as if they were in a dress shop picking out patterns. All that aside, Tim is plenty excited about the awards banquet, and he's sure fellow car guys feel the same...however, a bunch of RSVPs come in the mail, stating various reasons why they cannot attend. And Brad, Randy and Mark can't come 'cause it's a school night. So now it looks like it will only be Al, Heidi, Jill, Wilson, and the guest of honor. But wait, Heidi isn't so sure she can make it, what with pregnancy wearing her out so easily. May not be a good idea to travel, she's 9 months along...but then we wouldn't have an episode otherwise. Tim is unsympathetic to her plight and practically bullies her into going. You know, Tim is stirring up a good deal of bad karma. Hopefully nothing will go wrong on his big night.

Tim, Jill and Heidi in the Nomad are en route the banquet, with the award being the only thing on Tim's mind. When traffic piles up, he takes an ill-advised shortcut. It's smooth sailing until the Nomad runs out of gas in the middle of nowhere, so Tim hikes on foot two miles back to a service station. He phones Al at the banquet, telling him they had "car trouble" and he fibs about hitting a deer. Then he talks to the station proprietor, who looks very familiar. Remember Fred, the worker at the Alpena airport in Season 5? This is Ned, his "nicer" brother. Actually, he's an even bigger sarcastic jerk. He won't let Tim use the restroom, mainly because it's out of order, but he doesn't tell him that until he pays for his gas, and he charges him $150 for use of his gas can! Back at the Nomad, Jill and Heidi have got some BIG problems. Contractions have started. Tim gets back with the gas and with no time to make it to the hospital, they go back to Friendly Ned's Gas Station and sit her down inside. Despite Tim and Jill's best efforts to stay positive, they are freaking out on the inside. They call Al back, and, to their good fortune, Wilson is a trained midwife. I mean, he's an expert at everything else, so why not? Wilson appoints Jill to be Heidi's coach and Tim the receiver. The Tool Man doesn't feel he can do the job, so Wilson has to give him a pep talk. Meanwhile, that baby was coming out! Time was of the essence! After more heaving and straining, from both Heidi and Tim, the baby was successful out. It's a girl! Wilson tells Tim to find something soft and warm to wrap the baby in. So he makes the supreme sacrifice and uses his Car Guy jacket. Finally, an ambulance arrives to take the girls to the hospital and Tim can finally bid adieu to Ned, but not before the attendant gives him a cigar to mark the occasion...only, he can't smoke it because they're in a gas station. But, out of curiosity, let's see what would happen if Tim smoked in a gas station: he gets blowed up. Don't worry, folks, Tim doesn't die. But when he gets the bill for the gas station he destroyed, he might wish he had.

So, Heidi has her baby. Rumor has it that's Debbe Dunning's actual baby in the scene. As for the episode rundown, the second half is better than the first. I really didn't like how Tim made Heidi go with them. It was a lazy writing device, I know, but still, it shouldn't have played out that way. It makes Tim look like a prick, and then he already stole from Al to buy that stupid chair, so maybe it is satisfying to see him get blown up at the end. However, Tim does a good deed by helping to deliver Heidi's baby AND wraps it in his special jacket. Special shout out to Tom Poston, back on the show as another 'ed' boy, just playing the type of character you wouldn't want to run into if you're ever stranded. So if you want to see Heidi have her baby, see Tim deliver one, or you like Poston's characters, then I'd recommend this episode. But not for any other reason.
