- Hogan receives orders to get a secret box off a plane that went down near Stalag 13.
- Stalag 13 staff and POWs are all watching as a large formation of Allied bombers overfly the camp. All are witness as ack-ack takes out one of the aircraft and observe the crew successfully parachuting from the doomed machine. The vacated aircraft crashes just outside of the compound and although it breaks-up, it does not burn. Soon, the Gestapo arrive to secure the wreckage for investigation by an aviation engineering expert. Meanwhile, the captured bomber pilot is brought to Stalag 13 and covertly informs Hogan that there is a top-secret device installed in the aircraft, which must not fall into enemy hands.—Harry Tumilson
- At the start, Schultz and one other unnamed guard are nailing a sign on the wall on the outside of Klink's office, under the 'Kommandanteur' sign. It says that this is the headquarters for the Winter Relief effort. In Klink's office, Klink asks Hogan to give to the German Winter Relief Fund. Just then, planes are heard flying by. Klink opens the window, and sees B-17 bombers flying by. Klink and Hogan go outside; Carter, Newkirk, Kinchloe, and LeBeau are there with Schultz, looking at the formation of planes. Schultz is looking at the planes, and giving a 'play-by-play' account of what is happening. He says that they are at about 3000 feet altitude. He sees one that is hit and falling. parachutes are opening, the plane is going to crash just outside of STALAG 13. Hogan says that they may have a new announcer in Schultz.
Later, Hogan, Newkirk, Carter, Kinch, and LeBeau see the plane that has crashed just outside the wire. A staff car comes in the front gate with a new prisoner, Captain John MItchell. They go to Klink's office. Klink gives Mitchell some questions; Mitchell gives him his name, rank, and serial number. During the questioning, Klink gets a call from General Burkhalter. While Klink is talking, Mitchell writes a note and slips it to Hogan. Klink sees him slipping the note, and takes it before Hogan can read it. The note says that Mitchell wants to talk with Hogan. Klink puts Mitchell in solitary, in the cooler.
In the cooler, Schultz is guarding Mitchell, who is in a cell. LeBeau knocks on a window, and shows Schultz some food. Schultz wants the food and leaves. Schultz goes outside, and LeBeau gives Schultz some of the food. While this distraction is going on, Hogan goes into the cooler through a tunnel entrance to see Mitchell. Mitchell asks about the rest of his crew; Hogan says that they were taken to STALAG 4. Mitchell tells Hogan about a direction finding box in the plane. The box should have been destroyed. The destruct mechanism failed; Mitchell thought the plane would burn when crashing, but it did not. They need to keep that box from the Germans. Hogan gives Mitchell a pad of paper and a pencil, and tells him to sketch the box, with some details and dimensions.
Back in the barracks, LeBeau and Carter look at the diagram, and talk about the box. Hogan says that they will try to get the box tonight. There is just 1 guard by the plane, Carter and Newkirk are to distract him.
That night, Carter and Newkirk go to the plane dressed in German uniforms, to distract the guard while Hogan looks for the box. Just then, Gestapo Major Feldkamp comes by and wants to know what they are doing there. They talk themselves out of the mess.
Feldkamp goes to Klink's office, and wants to start an investigation. Feldkamp says that a Doctor Wolfgang Becker, an electronics expert, will be coming. He asks Klink if he knows him; Klink at first says yes, then no. Feldkamp gives Klink Becker's file to look at.
Hogan and the men are listening in on the coffee pot. Hogan wants to have a look at Becker's file.
Later, Carter and LeBeau are cleaning Klink's office; Schultz wants them to leave. Carter can't find LeBeau; Schultz and Carter look around for LeBeau, and go to the outer office looking for him. LeBeau has hidden himself under Klink's desk. When Schultz leaves, he looks for Becker's file, finds it, and photographs it.
Later in the barracks, Kinch is looking at the pictures of Becker's file. He goes through some routine history, saying his degrees are listed. One interesting thing mentioned is that Becker is a gambler. Hogan has an idea. Hogan says they need to keep Becker here for a while, and tells Carter to build a box similar to the one Mitchell sketched. Hogan then says that the men will build a gambling casino.
In Klink's office, Hogan gives Klink some money. he says that the money was from some poker pot. How can they get some more money for Winter Relief? Klink has no idea, his mind is blank. Hogan convinces Klink to have a gambling hall - for the Winter Relief Fund. Hogan says that they can set it up in Barracks 9, which is currently vacant. He says that this will keep the prisoners occupied, and they might get some tips from the big rollers.
Kinch is looking out through a stovepipe in the roof, looking at the downed airplane. He says that Becker found the device.
Carter shows the men the box that he has made. They will try to get the real one tonight, and substitute the dummy for the real one.
In the casino in barracks 9, Klink is looking at the money that has been taken in so far. LeBeau comes by and tells Hogan that Becker is leaving from the airport at 1000 that evening. They need to get the box before then.
Hogan goes to Klink's quarters, where Becker and Feldkamp are. He asks Becker to go to the casino for a while; Feldkamp objects, but Becker wants to go.
Hogan takes Becker to the casino, Klink welcomes him. After a short time, LeBeau, Hogan, Newkirk, and Carter throw smote bombs, yell 'fire', and turn the lights off. Hogan goes to Becker, and knocks him out for a short time. Newkirk opens the briefcase, which is chained to Becker's wrist, takes the real box out, and replaces it with the box that Carter made. Becker comes to, the lights come back on, and Feldkamp opens the briefcase, and sees the box still there. Hogan tells Becker that his bet did not win, and that his bets were all for a good cause.
At the end, Hogan, Klink, and Schultz are in Klink's office. Schultz gives Klink 894 Marks, the final total of what was made. Hogan finds 1 in Schultz's sleeve, and says 'Correction, 895 Marks'. Klink gives each prisoner 1 extra sheet of writing paper for their effort. Klink wants to keep 200 Marks for himself, for managing the effort. Hogan says to send all if it to Berlin, or else he will be the only one who is facing a Russian tank with an expense account.
