IMDbTV Pick: Showtime's "Penny Dreadful"

The subtle trick Showtime's "Penny Dreadful is that it is far less about the blood, gore and the specter of gruesome death than the sharp pain and exhilarating pleasure of living, and the terror of feeling alone even in close company. Read our review in the May Picks section.

The episode felt like a rerun the first time around.

In this episode we have Hogan's gang with orders to blow up a ball-bearing plant near the Stalag. They have rigged a loaded truck filled with TNT to explode at a certain time and the mission looks to be on schedule.

But when the half-wit Colonel Crittendon (Bernard Fox) makes an appearance, everybody knows that something will go wrong. And sure enough, he drives the truck loaded with the TNT back to the prison camp.

There is little to this story. Most of the action/gags have been done many time on the series and just not amusing. Even the jokes, which were few and far between, was old material. Just did not have the flare of other episodes.
