Storyline

Hine, seeing no prospect of making a deal, is on the point of leaving a country in Africa when Astor Harris arrives with an offer from Pendles - very much at the bidding of the British Government, seeking to forestall a deal being made with China instead. Hine persuades Harris to keep him on as an advisor, but is then kidnapped by a rebel faction. Their demand, in exchange for Hine, is that the deal is concluded with China, but Harris and the British High Commissioner press ahead with their offer which looks set to be accepted. In Britain, Hine's secretary is able to get in touch with Sir Christopher Pendle, who had been away on holiday: on being told of the situation, he overrules Harris and has the offer withdrawn, after which Hine is released.
