Eric Douglas who plays Rhett Clark is the youngest son of Kirk Douglas, who like Donald O'Connor, was a big star in the 50's. In this story, the father is jealous of the son's success and is trying to keep up. In real life Eric tried to keep up with the success of his father and his older brother, 'Michael Douglas' and turned to drugs and alcohol to cope. He died of an overdose at the age of 46.
