Mae Loman calls the Highway Patrol with a hysterical (and false) report of a robbery and assault in order to divert their attention so that her husband Bert can rob a loan company of $8,000 while impersonating a Highway Patrol officer. They decide to rob a nursery the same day using a similar ruse, unaware that the loan office manager has identified Bert. Dan Mathews and his officers notify nearby businesses of the Lomans' manner of operation and nursery office manager Alice Crane calls when she sees Bert outside in a Highway Patrol uniform. Dan and Officers Simpson and Larrabee trap Bert in the nursery office. Aware of trouble, Mae shows up and deliberately blunders into a situation where Bert can take her as a "hostage" in a last-ditch effort to allow them to escape. Written by
