Trivia

The Stone of Scone was, in fact, stolen from Westminster Abbey on Christmas Day 1950 by a group of Scottish students. It was broken during its removal and transported by the students to Scotland. The stone was left at Arbroath Abbey on 11 April 1951 and then returned to Westminster Abbey. At the time, rumors circulated that the returned stone was a copy and not the real stone. On 3 July 1996, the House of Commons announced that the stone would from then on be kept in Scotland and only returned to England for use in coronations. On 30 November 1996 it arrived at Edinburgh Castle, where is has remained since. See more »
