Storyline

Duncan is kidnapped on orders of "the Colonel." Amanda takes a young thief under her wing who starts mimicking her appearance. In flashback to 1918 France, Duncan is unable to prevent glory-seeking immortal Colonel Killian from leading a charge after he's been told that the war is over, but Duncan's testimony convicts Killian at a court-martial. Duncan then asks for Killian's death sentence to be commuted to life in a criminal asylum. In present day, Killian's thugs kidnap Melissa thinking she's Amanda, and Killian leaves Duncan in a cell in an abandoned building. Written by mama.sylvia

Goofs

Normally the camera angles after a Quickening never show a head, but surely after McLeod takes Killian's head it would have dropped from the rafters above and landed within the large area where McLeod was standing shown by the camera. See more »

Better than average episode
10 June 2007 | by (New York,NY USA) – See all my reviews

It seems the pattern with most of the Highlander episodes is a long line of mediocre episodes with three or four really outstanding episodes. This pattern is why I have not already gone through my entire collection of Highlander episodes. Most of them have been boring. Anyway this episode called The Colonel was not bad. I won't call it outstanding but better than average.

The villain in this episode is Colonel Simon Killian whose military grandiosity has caused the death of hundreds of mortal soldiers on a World War I battle field unnecessarily. Duncan MacCloud exacts justice by making sure he is put in an insane asylum for seventy years. When Killian gets out he wants revenge.

The episode also has some subplots with Joe Dawson and Mac still estranged but Amanda helping them to reconcile and Amanda's relationship with a young mortal protégé. So there was a lot going on in this episode and it kept it engaging. Definitely a better than average episode.
