I loved seeing Duncan going home. Beautiful scenery and music. The Debra and Duncan romance was too melodramatic. Last-minute romance between Rachel and Duncan wasn't needed.

Warning: Spoilers
Duncan finds an old Celtic bracelet being sold at a dealership. He had given it to his first love, Debra Campbell. He goes to Glenfinnan in Scotland to find her grave and return the bracelet to her grave with Joe following on watcher duty. In the meantime, there are a couple of villagers murdered, and people are bringing up an old legend of Kanwulf who terrorized the region 400 years ago.

I have this listed as my favorite episode in my review of the show, but I do have some issues with it. This episode is directed by Adrian Paul and what a wonderful job he did with the beautiful scenery and use of the song 'Bonny Portmore,' which was also used in the original 'Highlander' movie.

I loved seeing Mac's expression of happiness and excitement as he visited his home. That was actually very touching. There's something about coming home on the screen that is always moving. Another great scene when he visited his parent's graves. I loved the scene with Duncan and his mother in the flashback.

Looks like Adrian Paul shaved his chest for the flashback to 1618. I suppose to make him look a little younger, age 26. But it didn't work. His face gives away his older age. A let down by the make-up people perhaps? There is make-up and make-up techniques to make an actor look younger. Adrian had a very close shave, but nah. He still looked 35. Anyway, the shaved chest thing made me chuckle.

The love story with Debra Campbell and Duncan was a little too melodramatic for my tastes. Duncan coming upon Debra at a creek with her low cut dress patting her upper chest with water was too "Harlequin Romance" nonsensical to me. I really couldn't get into Debra so desperate to marry Duncan that she would throw herself off a cliff otherwise. Then again the times were different, so...

Kanwulf was a little silly as a villain, but sometimes he made sense: "Why did you bury the bracelet with the girl, MacLeod? We all have our rituals." Mac wanted to kill him because he killed his father. I didn't really find this motivation as justified as the fact that Kanwulf was killing villager in present-day in his quest to get his ax back. I mean after all his father died 400 years ago, when times were different, and it appears Kanwulf was there on a Viking raid.

The biggest drawback to the episode was Rachel Macleod. I mean things were going along so great when they all of a sudden threw in romantic intentions near the end with Rachel wearing a slip covered with a blanket. I was like, why did they have to ruin it? Rachel wasn't that likable, to begin with, and has zero chemistry with Mac. There was enough story already going on and the romantic stuff just wasn't needed. It came off as awkward and weird.

I loved that Duncan went back home. I loved the writers adding more to his early history. And again, I loved the beautiful scenery. I gave the episode a 9/10.
