Duncan's old immortal friend, Brian Cullen, is a drug addict. He got into it with Richie at Joe's bar. Later he goes after Richie and ends up driving the wrong way in a lane and hits a bus. The bus crash is huge and lots of people are injured and killed. Anne is at the hospital and attends to many of the patients. Brian is spiraling out of control.
I thought the actor that played Brian did a really good job playing a guy that was afraid to fight after being the "best" for so many years and people coming after him all the time and turning to drugs to cope.
I thought this line by Brian was so profound: "I forgot. We're the lucky ones. I'd trade it all... in a minute... for a normal life." That must be how all the good immortals feel. What a great delivery of that line by the actor.
I enjoyed the friendship of Duncan and Cullen in the flashbacks. Love drunk Duncan. He is always so funny. You can tell Brian is already sick and tired of people coming after him because he is "the best" in the first flashback.
I had to laugh whenever Brian snorted drugs he did this weird body motion thing. It looks like when someone needs to pee and is trying to hold it. Is that what happens when people snort drugs? I dunno, never did them or hung with anyone that did them. Just thought it was funny.
I guess this is the beginning of the writers trying to force the Duncan/Anne relationship. They have no chemistry. Anne is an ok character on her own, tho she is nosy and a busy body like Charlie was. Duncan is taken with her as he watches her look after patients from the crash at the hospital. Remember Duncan looking at Darius as he looked after an injured soldier when they first met? Later Darius becomes his mentor and Duncan admires his non-violent ways and high regard for mortals. Duncan seems to look at mortals and their lives as being sacred, so I can see how he would be drawn to someone like Anne. Lives are indeed sacred, but this is a fantasy show, and I find his perspective is flawed sometimes as mortals can be just as bad as immortals, and Duncan tends to be dismissive of that, but is always willing to punish immortals that hurt mortals.
That was a pretty drawn out long fight with Duncan and Brian at the end wasn't it. Brian even managed to nick Duncan's neck. Poor Duncan killed a good friend. Good job by AP crying at the end of this fight. Why did he go on the date with Anne after? Wouldn't you have called that off after killing a good friend? Take some time to mourn and reflect? Maybe he needed comforting? But Anne had no clue what happened. Ugh, just forcing these two I think.
I gave the episode an 8/10.
