Watch For Nolan's Escape Attempt
richard.fuller122 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This odd episode at least showcases Jeanette Nolan, who was just on the threshold of delivering her most memorable character, Sally Fergus, aka Dirty Sally, on Gunsmoke.

Seeing that she portrayed the mountain woman a few years earlier than Gunsmoke kind of diminishes the breakout of Dirty Sally.

In this depiction, Nolan is an old mountain woman whose son commits murder and one of the Bolt brothers is blamed for the crime. A witness is a silent old Indian who knows the real killer is not Bolt.

The Indian is believed killed by the sons of Nolan, so they bring him out at the trial as a surprise witness.

This brings about one of the most amusing bits for me.

When Nolan sees the Indian, she stands and declares, "them Bolts have been bribing him. I'm getting' outta here!" And with this, in a far-off shot, Nolan stands to run and several others follow suit and stand, attempting to stop her.

But one of those, in a bright pink dress, is the demure little Bridget Hanley. It is truly the funniest thing I've ever seen; all these guys stand and stop her, but one of those ready to be dragged thru the door and out the building is Hanley.

As it is, the episode is somewhat intriguing, with Susan Tolsky dressing up in Indian garb to appease the old man.
