Salmoneus picks up Hercules to visit friend king Midas's realm's new gambling and pleasure palace. To their astonishment, the royal guards now terrorize the people, with draconian punishments for petty crimes. Worse, real power has shifted, as nearly all income, to the palace's manager Segallus, who plans to marry Midas's beloved Flaxen, and his even meaner business partner Hispides. Disapproving Hercules is drawn in, forced to perform an unprecedented gauntlet to save the royal lives.
