Bill Walker and Powys Thomas
9 November 2014 | by (Youngstown,Ohio) – See all my reviews

"Delaware Hoax" begins with the discovery of two Indian corpses that appear to have been slain by the friendly Delaware. At Fort Roberts, Chingachgook (Lon Chaney) tries to convince Major Tilton (Earl Grey, first of two) that evidence points to white man's treachery, until the major reports accusations made by Tarrytown supply store owner Benjamin Stanwell (William Walker, first of three), working in collusion with Ira Johnson (Powys Thomas, first of five), a land speculator and mastermind behind a plot to usurp the Delawares' territory. A book of obscure government laws provided by Blaisdell (Glynne Morris, last of two) explains everything to Hawkeye (John Hart), who then goes undercover to ride with the gang as phony Delawares on the warpath. Outdoor shooting enhances realism, in a somewhat brutal episode. Chaney's best moment shows the difference between how white men walk, compared to how his Indian brothers do, while once again John Hart makes the pinch underwater.
