While not a new idea, this episode was first aired May 3, 1961, and President John Kennedy would not present his speech, Address at Rice University on the Nation's Space Effort, otherwise known as "We choose to go to the Moon". The speech was made September 12, 1962.
Appropriately, the name of the glib promoter, Ed Haskell, is the same as that of the smooth-talking teenager played by Ken Osmond on the concurrent series Leave It to Beaver (1957).
