Despite a few pot holes, this one was a HUGE change of pace for the series.

"Invitation to Murder" seemed much more like an Agatha Christie novel than an episode of "Hawaii Five-O". While the plot is pretty familiar, it isn't for the show and represents a big departure from the usual. In some ways, this is very nice--in others, the show is a bit lacking.

Steve McGarrett is approached by a lawyer (Lyle Bettger--who often played Jonathan Kaye on the show) with an odd request--follow him along to the reading of a will because what's in it MIGHT lead to the beneficiaries killing each other!! That's because the deceased artist stipulates that they must wait one year to collect--and the SURVIVING family members will split the money at that time. Well, wouldn't you know it--folks start dropping like flies! And so it's up to Steve and the gang to get to the bottom of it.

The biggest shortcoming of the episode is that the finale is less than stellar. After a ton of murders, Steve comes up with a theory as to who the murderer was--and yet while an interesting theory, there is absolutely no concrete proof and the show just ends!! But, it is creative and cool to see the various murders--enough so that it's entertaining. But far from a great episode.

DUMB MOMENT TO LOOK FOR: When Danny suspects that a wine about to be drunk is poisoned, he takes a small taste to find out for sure!!! Thank goodness it wasn't something like potassium cyanide--this would have killed this idiot!!
