I wonder if this episode has an element of truth...

Warning: Spoilers
This episode of "Hawaii Five-O" has an odd premise--but one that made me wonder if perhaps it was based on real stories of drug smugglers. It seems that a group of opportunists have come up with a great scheme for getting heroin onto the islands. With a recent crackdown, the drug supply has died up and this trio has figured out how to beat it. They fly a small plane very low over the water and snatch floating shipments with a grappling hook. Now here's the clever part. As the pilot (Ed Harris) is returning to the airport, his assistant (Bruce Boxleitner) jumps out of the plane--skydiving to a location far from the police. I am not sure how easy it would really be to snag a floating supply of drugs, but otherwise the plan seemed really good. However, there are a few problems. First, one of their compatriots is an addict--and a liability. When he's killed, Five-O investigates and gets very close to the crooks. Second, within this happy gang is a nasty subplot brewing--with an interesting twist.

The only real negative for me in this is that McGarrett catching the trio in the act seemed a bit far-fetched. Still, an original story and some interesting twists make this one well worth seeing.

Lively episode

In this episode, Ed Flanders made one of his seven! Appearances on the series. I think he wasn't a "bad guy" in one of them, but I'm not sure about that. To me, his most memorable role was the rogue scientist who created the disease that turns cows and people into petrified wood (an early two-parter).

Bruce Boxleitner was at the time a promising young actor and this was his second appearance on 5-0 in Season Seven! In the first, he played the son of a powerful rancher, murdered by his brother. His appearance in that show as so brief evidently the producers felt guilty about it and brought him back quickly.

Here he plays an ace skydiver who is essential to a new idea to smuggle drugs onto Oahu ... and a major component of the story is a dearth of illegal drugs on the island due to a crack-down by various LE agencies. I'm not sure if that has EVER really happened. LOL

5-0 gets onto their scheme early and has everyone connected under surveillance. They only need to fill in a few blanks to bust the bad guys. :-)
