The passage of scripture recited by Paladin after the baby is born - "Though I speak with the tongues of men and [of] angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal" - is 1 Corinthians 13:1 from the King James Bible.
There are several parallels to the birth of Jesus: It is Christmas eve, a man with his pregnant wife arrives at a town and there is no room for them. After the baby is born, three men give presents to the parents, and the name of the town is Bethlehem.
