What a simple, unrealistic reaction of the Southern sheriff, restaurant owner, waitress and patrons to an attempt by The Fonz to have them serve a Black patron. In this 1950's set episode a black young man tries to eat in a restaurant with 2 northerners. History tells us that if The Fonz and Arnold hadn't been killed for this behavior, they would have been beat to a pulp and the young black boy surely would have been killed. It would take more than what they did to change the rules of that era. It took Martin Luther King and hundreds of supporters to challenge the laws of the Jim Crow south. Southern racists of the 1950's were mean, relentless, and vicious. But at least Ron Howard tried to tackle the truth, somewhat. Kudos to Ron Howard and Happy Days for at least trying.
