Const. Hamish Macbeth is the law in the Scottish village of Lochdubh and many of the locals keep him on his toes. The local shop is broken into and the only thing taken is half a hundred weight of salt. He also investigates the disappearance of Big Geordie Robb, whose abandoned car is found off the road in a remote location by two of the locals, Lachlan McRae and his son Lachie. DI Bruce and DS Sandra McDonald are called into investigate, though it's not obvious if they are dealing with a disappearance or a death. Robb was known as something of brute and with his wife at home in bed with injuries - supposedly from a farm accident - Hamish correctly assumes there more to his absence than meets the eye. Meanwhile, Hamish has to deal with the return of Alexandra Maclean, his one true love. It's apparent she's only staying for a short while and is still intent on making a success of herself outside of Lochdubh. Written by garykmcd
