Storyline

Continuation of Episode #18.1, "The River, Part 1". The outlaws catch up with Matt Dillon and the two orphans, Tuttle and Hannah, at the rough mining town. Matt and the children make their escape on the raft, along with the pair of thieves, Pierre and Paulette. As the outlaws ride hell-for-leather along the Rogue River bank, the escapees continue their whitewater rafting journey. All the characters meet at the Narrows, and the plot threads weave a well-disposed conclusion. Written by richardann

Toward the end, as the large tree is cut down, the cuts are made on the wrong side, for the tree to fall in the direction it did. Also, cut on the backside of the trunk is supposed to be above the main cut - for safety. See more »

My, I do love Gunsmoke.

I've seen close to every Gunsmoke made from 55' to 75', both at the time they were released and through reruns. Yes I'm an old sucker.

This particular episode contains 3 out of 4 of the all time great character actors of all time. Namely, Jack Elam, Slim Pickens and Miriam Colon. Had Anthony Zerbre been there I could have died and went to wherever I'm headed.

This tongue-in-cheek, two part production had so much to offer; comedy, drama, excellent acting and more.......comedy.

Jack Elam as a Frenchie?......Too much! Slim Pickens as one evil character?.....Not a chance
