A witness to a murder points his finger at Marshal Dillon.
kfo949426 September 2013
Here is a nicely written script that was a change of pace from the norm. It begins as a brute of a farmer, Pat Swarner, comes into the Long Branch and starts harassing Kitty. Matt comes in and has to slap around the farmer to get him to leave without causing anymore trouble.

Later a down-on-his-luck man, Jud, passes an alley and sees two men in a heavy fight. One of the men goes goes down while the other walks away. The next morning Pat Swarner is found dead in the alley and Jud tells the townsfolk that he saw Marshal Dillon in the fight that killed Pat. Now some people of Dodge are going to send a letter asking for the removal of Marshal Dillon.

This was a nice change of pace as again we see how the townsfolk can quickly turn on the Marshal even after years of protection. Well written and well performed by the actors. After a few previous episodes were rather lackluster, it was nice to see the series return to its roots and produce another great western watch for the viewers.

Gunsmoke casting person LOVED George Kennedy
rerunwatcher31 March 2022
I watch Gunsmoke reruns multiple times a week. This is the 3rd time George Kennedy has been on Gunsmoke in just the space of a few episodes! At any rate, this is a good episode. George Kennedy is trying to hit on Miss Kitty. Marshall Dillon got rid of him. Then, later George Kennedy ends up dead. It is a good mystery episode.

Sniveling towns folk
chchurch22 November 2023
This is a pretty good episode with nice acting by regulars and guest stars. That said, it's one of several shows over the 20 years Gunsmoke was on that demonstrated what a sniveling bunch of snots a goodly percentage of Dodge were. No matter what Matt did for the town against all manner of bad guys it never took much to get them to turn on the Marshall for any perceived infraction no matter how shady the accuser. You wonder why Matt didn't tell them to pound sand and light out for St. Louis or San Francisco to make big city money. Well, considering they had to write 640 or so scripts it's understandable that occasionally they had to stretch credulity.

Three Big Men

Warning: Spoilers
**SPOILERS**

I liked the way Kitty kept tellin' Swarner to back off, and he just kept right on bothering her until finally Matt had to step in. Kinda surprised that Kitty didn't get the bung hammer and clock him right there. Now, maybe it's just me, but it didn't really look like the other pals" of his were really such good buddies. I wonder if Old Swarner had a brother they were afraid of, as well.

Anyway, it was a good end to bad rubbish in the finale of the guy who really DID get Big Man #2 Swarner (George Kennedy, one of my favorite actors. (R.I.P., Mr. Kennedy). Good episode.

A Big Man With A Big Mouth
StrictlyConfidential16 March 2021
(*Pat Swarner quote*) - "Well, now, I had no idea I'd find you here."

Big mouthed cowboy, Pat Swarner has been found beaten to death in a back alley.

Jud Sloan is the sole witness to this incident and he claims that it was Marshal Dillon who had murdered Swarner.

When Dillon finds out about this accusation he swears to get to the bottom of it before the townfolk turn against him.

All they had to do was check Dillons hands for injuries or blood.
