This is the first of three appearances Gordon Jump makes in the series, each time playing a different character. The other two appearances are in How to Get from Hooterville to Pixley Without Moving (1968) and The Old Trunk (1969) from season four. He is perhaps best remembered for his recurring role as Arthur Carlson in both WKRP in Cincinnati (1978) and The New WKRP in Cincinnati (1991).
When Oliver and Lisa met again following the war, she was working at a restaurant playing cello for the Budapest Chamber Trio.
Oliver normally disputes the facts of Lisa's stories about their dating days. This time, he only complains about the ending that has him punching Buddy Atkinson, the leader of the all-girl orchestra Lisa performs with.
Oliver's claim that the story Lisa is telling is borrowed from the plot of a movie Slim Summerville and Sally Eilers appear in is, of course, as fictional as Lisa's story. The movie title Oliver mentions, i.e. "The Broadway Gaieties of 1938," does not exist and Mr. Summerville and Ms. Eilers appear together in only one movie, i.e. Sailor's Holiday (1929).
Lisa compliments Oliver for his sentiment about love being all that matters. She says, "You're so Noel Cowardy." The compliment is somewhat tongue-in-cheek in that it alludes to the Noël Coward song "If Love Were All," that expresses, contrary to Oliver's sentiment, the notion that love is not all that matters.
