One hour broadcast split into two
21 December 2016 | by (Youngstown,Ohio) – See all my reviews

"Thelma's African Romance" is a famous one hour broadcast split into two for syndication. Thelma plans to lead a protest march against the university cafeteria food, along with classmates Valerie (Vernee Watson), Richard (Bob Harcum), and Nigerian exchange student Ibe Wubila (Johnny Sekka). The assistant dean (Carl Mathis Craig) delivers a message of own by suspending Thelma, which doesn't sit well with Ibe, who ends up joining her on the outside, inviting her to dinner to become better acquainted. Before long, Thelma wears her hair in African dreadlocks and talks of moving in with Ibe. WELCOME BACK, KOTTER veterans Bob Harcum and Vernee Watson play virtually the same characters here, while Senegal native Johnny Sekka, now relocated from England, would return to Africa for the final chapter of ROOTS: THE NEXT GENERATIONS.
